LONDON

LONDON!

I hope you all soldiered through my last, semi-depressing blog because I can reassure you that I am a peppy Delta Nu sister again (Last Legally Blonde reference, I promise!) ready to write about more of my adventures in England! I am actually really happy that I was chosen to blog this year because it will be interesting to look back on my ever-changing feelings and have documentation of the highs and lows of my trip! So let’s get started, shall we?

Last week was MUCH better than its predecessor and I only got lost once when trying to find a class! ;) In an ironic twist of things, all of my classes this semester happen to be related in some way, which I’m finding to be rather exciting (Hermione-esque nerd in me, I know).  I’m taking Human Biology, Human Physiology, Ancient Greek Religion and History of Medicine. My two Biology classes are my favorite (obviously?) and the books I’m assigned to read are actually interesting and easy to follow despite the complex material. I’m learning about the body and why it responds the way it does, and then I’m learning how doctors dealt with diseases in the early 13th and 14th centuries by knowledge given to them from summarizations of the ancient Greek revolutionary, Galen who took his approach from Hippocratic influence. See?! It’s very interesting and challenging to participate in my Classical Studies and History classes because I am not used to thinking as openly as I’m required but I’m trying (!) and having underlying connections to my favorite classes makes me want to become involved. Besides school, my BFF Christina, who I’m sure you’ll be reading about frequently in my blogs, always plans a trip for us on Saturdays. A couple of Saturdays ago we went to LONDON! We went to the British Museum of Natural History, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park, the M&M Store, and Trafalgar Square. After the museum and walking in the footsteps of William and Kate, we went shopping on Oxford Street which is the main street for shopping with all of the essentials: H&M, Primark, Forever21, TopShop and many more. Primark is an insanely cheap clothing store, like Forever21 on crack. I got the cutest purse for the equivalent of $9! Only problem was, the Primark on Oxford Street is chaotic, like Black Friday all the time. After surviving Primark, we walked around in hopes of seeing Brangelina or Pippa but we had no such luck. What we did find was a restaurant that served the best Fish and Chips! Before leaving we went and saw Big Ben at night and it was gorgeous! You look at these buildings and wonder how they are even real! The architecture is truly amazing! We are planning another trip to London in the future where we’ll ride on the London Eye and get all of our obligatory, kitschy London memorabilia. Hopefully then we can scout out royalty, or even better, David Beckham!

Nick and I recapturing the love at the Royal Wedding!

The end of this week will mark my one month in England and I can’t believe how fast time has flown! My birthday is almost here (October 23, send presents) and if I were back in the states I would be freaking out! Even though turning 21 here isn’t as huge as it is in the states, I am so happy and thankful to have such amazing, close friends to make it a big deal!  I have been so blessed with wonderful roommates and friends who are always there for me when I need them. I wish you all could have an experience as wonderful as mine is turning out to be. So consider study abroad! No matter how scary it may be, believe me, you won’t regret it! 'Til next time-
