DEUCES... the volleyball way

10/04/2010

We were a LONG way from home this weekend, but we still pulled out a win... TWO TIMES IN A ROW.

A tradition the team started a year ago still holds strong. Each game collectively we think of a word, phrase, or acronym to write on our wrists. The reason we do this is to remind us of our mission that game. For example, against Cedarville we wrote "NOT AGAIN" because last year they were the team who gave us our first lost and broke our 8-0 undefeated record. So our mission that match was to send them the message that we WERE NOT going to let them ruin our clean record.

So this weekend, we played 2 conference matches at Brescia University in Kentucky... a 6 hour drive! Not to mention, we didn't have internet which made the trip longer and less entertaining. Although, I will say that we stopped at the Edinburgh mall and got an hour and a half to shop! It was a great way to get our exercise for the day, right!?

Back to the tradition! This weekend, we wrote DEUCES on our wrists! We wrote it for a couple reasons.

  1. We were playing TWO conference matches.
  2. By winning both games, our new record would be 22 and 0. In other words, "double deuce," deuce deuce," or better yet, "DEUCES."
  3. We wanted to get in and get out. We wanted to make a statement and put a stamp on the conference. We wanted to "treat it like a business" as one of our coaches like to put it. We wanted to come in to the matches ready to play, focused, and do business. We didn't want to lolly gag, leave them hope, and play on their level. So we got in there, did our business, and left! ...aka, we threw up our "deuces."

We are now 22 and 0, and I don't see us losing.

We have a home game on Wednesday. I expect the house to be full, loud, and HYPE! :)
