Quebec City

07/17/2010

After a whole day of travelling on planes, buses, autocars, and trolleys I arrived in Québec City. Everything seems to be uphill. (I should have signed up for the mountain-climbing class instead of the fitness & jogging class.)

From the Bus Terminal, I saw a few of the beautiful Frescos in Québec City. Painted on the pillars that support the Dufferin-Montmorency highway overlooking East Charest Boulevard in the city's Saint-Roch district, they are a part of the Frescoes that adorn many locations throughout the city. These pillar designs do not depict historical scenes as the others do. Even the information signs on the frescoes are painted to look real.

While I am in the province of Québec, I am reading selections from 1960-1966 (The Quiet Revolution). This was a time of modernisation and change for Québec. I finished A Season in the Life of Emmanuel by Marie-Claire Blais. This was a dark tale of rural Québec and Emmanuel, the newborn sixteenth child, is only present in the opening and the closing pages of the book.
