For Fall 2013 IU East is fortunate to have not 1, not 2, but 3 (!) graduate library interns from the American Library Association accredited graduate library school at San Jose State University. We appreciate the opportunity to have these students contribute their ideas and talents to projects that will benefit the campus and community.
Robin Kokemore Rangel is working on an “Art Around the World” project. She will research authentic art from several countries and contribute to a resource guide that includes art samples, information about the country and culture, and ideas for art projects that represent the culture and artistic style. Robin earned her BA in U.S. History at the University of California, Berkeley. She currently works as a library media specialist at Parkmead Elementary School in Walnut Creek, CA. Robin is active in community service, including Friends of Civic Arts Education, City Council Communication Teams, and Parent Teacher Associations.
Faylene Keep is researching the role of libraries in promoting civic engagement on campus and in the community. She will focus on service-learning and community engagement and how the modern academic library can contribute to the social action mission of an institution of higher education. The outcomes of her project will include a review of the literature, best practices for service-learning for online students, and a case statement. Faylene earned a BS in Business Administration/Health Care Management at Devry University, Seattle. Her experience includes work in retail management and volunteering at her local county library.
Kate Drewieske is contributing to the creation of an e-book on the topic of “Picture book art: 75 years of Caldecott award winners.” She will research artistic styles and content relevant to techniques and information about the artists, compile ideas for activities that promote understanding of picture book artists’ styles, and organize content thematically. Kate’s BA degree is in Communications from Sonoma State University in California. She has worked in retail management and volunteers at a regional library in Rohnert Park, CA.
We look forward to the outcomes of their research and creative efforts and welcome them to our virtual IU East Community!
