Richmond is ‘a beautiful place to call home’ — India Cruse-Griffin creates community art for Positive Place and ‘One Book’ projects

Inside IU, October 24, 2012 Richmond-based artist India Cruse-Griffin is overseeing the creation of a public art piece for the Positive Place Initiative and IU East’s “One Book, Many Voices” project. Applying her characteristic mixed-media style, Cruse-Griffin will use layers, textures, patterns, color and paint to create a collage reflective of collective childhood memories and a shared story of places and events within the Richmond community.

Isay Event Strikes a Chord

Some stories made people cry. Other stories made them laugh. Hearing the voices of people whose stories had been recorded by StoryCorps touched the emotions of those who packed Indiana University East’s Vivian Auditorium on Tuesday to hear National Public Radio StoryCorps founder Dave Isay. “Listening,” Isay said, “shows there’s much more we share in common than divides us.” Isay appeared as part of the university’s “One Book, Many Voices” project. IU East’s second community writing marathon to focus on art and place

Indiana University East and other community organizers are planning the second event in a yearlong writing series. The next community writing marathon will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, and focus on writing about art and place across the Indiana University East, Ivy Tech Community College, and Reid Hospital & Health Care Services campuses.
