My College Thoughts...

09/24/2014

They say college is supposed to challenge us. Make us think about our futures and goals. Change us into the people we hope to become and set morals in our mind. So when we walk across that stage someone will hand us a diploma and make us feel as though our life is almost complete. This is what we are supposed to think college does for us. However I'm learning that college has a few more things about it that people don't know.

Thing one: Coffee is Liquid Gold. Don't question the power of a good cup of coffee, like ever.

Thing two: If you are going to be a merger please do it with class and graduate! Dropping out of college to get married is foolish, so don't do it. Not as many people get married in college, but if you are looking for that Mrs. Degree then be classy and stay in school.

Thing three: Become friends with people who challenge you, in a good way. Be friends with those people that push you to be a better person, whether that be on the inside or outside those are the people that will get you through college. Also find that one friend that no matter the situation you can call them and ask for a hair tie. Those friends are the ones that will stay forever in your lives because hey they probably want that hair tie back! (ex. of hair tie uses: Fighting some girl for looking at you funny in the club. Finding your face in a toilet. When you're running and a hot guy runs by.)

Thing four: The amount a free food you will be offered is digustingly amazing. However there will be times when you need to question said free food. Like when someone walks from behind a building late at night and offers you pizza. Question that person first then take the pizza (and hope you are safe while eating the pizza) and enjoy it because you got it fo freeeeee!

Those are things you should know, however this blog is about me so I'll give you my point of view about college.

College is the most stressful, chaotic, amazing place in the world. I'm learning everyday with each step I take something changes, good or bad. Some of the great things I can say about college are the people you meet, which is also probably the worst thing about college. You will meet some super cool people or some people who are kind of bullies to you. I have meet both kinds. I can't say much about the people who I would classify as "bullies" except a lot of them don't have drive or any sort of idea what they want in their lives. However I'm not a mean person and don't believe putting people down is right at all so to the "bullies" I hope you have a nice day! But the super awesome people I've met have only made my days at IUE worth while. I can say I've have met the sweetest of athletes to the coolest of janitors at IUE and I'm so thankful to have each one of them in my life.

Something else I've learned in college is that you are seriously unique. I have, and probably will never, meet anyone like me and that is pretty cool. However when you are a one of a kind person that becomes a challenge for you. Like in my case I'm a very driven and energetic person. My drive almost scares people away from me and my energy is like a hurricane, a lot to take in at once. Although I could careless if my energy levels are off the wall and people don't like my drive it's frustrating to not find someone that will challenge me and push me. So I push myself to be the best I can.

Another thing is organization is the key to success in college! If your college life is a mess and papers are everywhere and there is no color coordination going on in your life, I will personally come put your life in shape! Staying organized in college will be forever a life saver. Invest in a planner and some sticky notes.

Lastly something they definitely don't tell you in college is follow your heart. It's cheesy I know, but I truly mean that. Your heart is a great resource to have in your body (take an anatomy class and you'll know) it will make your life meaningful to listen to it. Be wise though, because heartbreak is like getting lemon juice in your eye. Or you'll just cry for six months, one of the two.

So there's my early college advice. Take it and shred it or run with it whichever floats your boat! I suggest getting some food though and sleeping because that's really what college is about.
