The Red Wolves Community

10/16/2014

An advantage of being apart of the Red Wolves Community is the advantage of earning a big 10 IU degree in a small personal setting (for a lot less money I may add). Anyway, being a Red Wolf has some great advantages to take apart on campus and feels like a small community in itself. From personal experience, my favorite student group is the student ambassadors, because hey we are awesome and that is how I got the job of blogging now. IUE student ambassadors are students on campus who work for the admissions office. Who host visiting students who are interested in coming to our school. We put on large events, such as Red Wolves Day and Junior Preview Day. Or if large crowds are not your thing we also offer smaller more personal events such as VIP Days. So if you see one college kid parading around with a large group of people following us, that is more than likely an ambassador. Feel free to say hi to us. We are friendly! We are sometimes the pictures of current students you see up around campus. I have gained some great friends from this student group that are outside of my major. I have met different people in other departments that I would not have met otherwise without being apart of this group. I urge you to join a group on campus where ever you go to college or if you are currently at IUE give a group a try. It gives you someone automatic group of friends to hangout with and become apart of the college atmosphere.

The graf would have to be one of my favorite spots on campus even if I do not get there as much as I would like. Since we are a commuter college the graf is where people congregate to hangout, and take a break from classes and studying. Basically its a large hangout lounge.  In the graf, we have Brewfus which is the on campus coffee shop. It is simply AWESOME! There white hot chocolate is delicious! People are always playing on the ping pong tables, pool tables, x box, or playing cards. It is just a good spot on campus to hangout and enjoy yourself. Being apart of the Red Wolves community you are given opportunities to create relationships with many different types of people who are in different walks of life. Many people on campus will do anything to do help you. I know of instances where people have lost books and half the campus was looking for this one person's book. Which they ended up finding. People are usually willing to help you get in contact with the right people whenever a problem does arise, even if they cannot assist you themselves. The campus is just a small welcoming community and I could not have wanted anything more out of my college experience. We really are our own community, which is just another reason IUE was the right college choice for me.
