HOME (and HEFTY) for the Holidays!

01/01/2012

Happy New Year my precious little blog readers! I am actually writing this blog to spare you all from my ridiculous rants. Ha! In all seriousness though, I hope you are enjoying my late night VLOG sessions as much as I enjoy talking into my computer while alone in my bedroom. I’m obviously the social butterfly. BUT on to some recent events, I AM IN AMERICA! I flew in for the holidays two weeks ago and after the longest plane ride of my life I got to see my family! My sister started crying as I walked out of the gate (TEAR*) and my mother almost suffocated me with her random and unusual neck hug. My dad was trying to play all cool and told me he had to work that night so he couldn’t come pick me up, but like I really believed that? Instead, he was at the end of the escalator with a sign that said my name, and he was also crying, of course. The plane ride from London to Atlanta was seriously horrible. I need some suggestions to help me fall asleep on a plane. It is physically and mentally impossible for me to sleep. Maybe I should just down some scotch and take some sleeping pills? BUT (and I wouldn’t be ringing in the New Year correctly without a Bridesmaids reference) I foresee me envisioning a colonial woman on the wing who is churning butter. I also foresee myself insulting a flight attendant, but hey, I would try anything at this point. But after my awful and incredibly long (10 hours) flight from London nothing could have made me happier than to land in Atlanta. It is so amazing how one country, and the airport of that country, can be so different from another. At Heathrow, there was one bathroom about a mile away from where I was sitting to board my flight, so during my two-hour wait to board I would have to gather up all my things and trek to the toilet. There were also more clothing boutiques than restaurants along the journey. Now, once I landed in Atlanta, there were 5 bathrooms straight out of the gate and 20 restaurants in the surrounding area. I was home. Oh! And the TVs were playing the Falcons game! AMERICAN FOOTBALL! I was definitely in America and it felt so good! I had one connecting flight from Atlanta to Indy and it was only an hour, praise the Lord! I got home and my bed (which seemed HUGE) was all folded down and warm and I had a massive stack of magazines (YAY!) to read. It was heaven! The next day I got to shower in my bathroom and I could move and dance if I wanted to in the tub! Coming home it felt like I had been living in a penitentiary for the last three months! I then got to go to Meijer (which is my favorite grocery, although I still LOVE WalMart!) and filled my cart with all of the American goodies! I was so surprised at some of the new junk food we have! WE HAVE FUDGE FILLED CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES! What. The. Heck. I bought some though. C'est la vie! I was so happy to have food in the house! Back at Kent, we’re all poor and survive on college kid staples: bread, eggs, milk and soup…at least I do anyway. But my house is always filled with food and this time around, when I didn’t care about becoming a chunker, I enjoyed it. After grocery shopping and a trip to Chili’s (one of my favorites!) my sister and I embarked on our massive mall-crawl. We went to Tri-County and Kenwood and Dayton and Cincinnati (not all in one day, though!) and after spending money I’m sure I’ll regret spending, I have more clothes! Then it was Christmas! My favorite part about my family’s Christmas is the breakfast we have every year after we open our presents. We have biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausage, and for dessert, my mother’s secret family recipe for biscuits and CHOCOLATE gravy! It’s beyond delicious! That night my mom and I made the best gingerbread house you will ever see! It belongs in the 90210 district of Gingerbread world. After Christmas my family and I just spent time together, which was nice. Then for New Year’s Eve, my sister and I carried on our tradition of staying in, watching movies and eating junk food. I love staying in on New Year’s in my sweats and my sister and I do it every year. Another thing I love is the optimism people have when approaching the New Year. It’s nice to see Facebook and twitter filled with happy updates rather than ones that involve hurting someone or hating life. I really hope that all of my friends who claim that this year will be their best or that this year is the year they accomplish what they want, truly believe that because you’d be surprised at what you can do if you just try. Hey-I always wanted to live in England and now I am?! This fitness guru I follow on twitter posted this the other day and I found it fitting for the New Year, “One of the most powerful things you can do is take responsibility for your life. Your Choices. Your Actions. Your Life.”

I hope you all have a wonderful year (!) and I just wanted to again say thank you for following my blogs! It’s always such a sweet surprise when people I wouldn’t expect to read my blogs message me or come up to me and say that they read them and enjoy them! So thank you (!) and I hope your holiday weekend ends well! Good luck with all of your resolutions! ‘Til next time-
