WE DID IT! Conference Tourney Champs

11/15/2010

Let me first say I LOVE MY TEAM; I can’t say it enough! Also, I want to say I TOLD YOU SO! We were NOT going to fall to Asbury this time. NO WAY, NO HOW!!

What an amazing weekend with my amazing team.

Thursday, we left the campus at 3. On the way to Brescia we went to Edinburgh Outlet! SHOPPPING! I must say, it was a very good, productive stop. I got 5 things for 35 dollars. With one of those items being a pair of Nike shoes. I LOVE OUTLET MALLS! Then we got something to eat at Ruby Tuesdays. Finally, we got to the hotel around 10 or 10:30. It was a pretty long day/drive.

Friday we had one game at 12. We played St. Louis and just dominated them. I could it was going to be a good weekend.

Saturday we played IU Southeast, our sister school rival. Before playing them, we arrived at the gym 2 hours early in order to watch Asbury play. When their game finished, I could just see the girls nodding their head and smiling. We were all talking about how we practiced covering certain shots, serving to certain areas, etc. On the other hand, Southeast was in our way….DOMINATION again. We swept them in 3.

After the Southeast game we had an hour and 45 minutes to kill until the CHAMPIONSHIP…. So we pigged out! We had brownies, crackers, CHEETOS, fruit, veggies, granola bars, and more food for champions.  YES, ALL FOOD ITEMS ARE PART OF OUR STRICT VOLLEYBALL MEAL PLAN!

3:00 hit and it was time to play. After coming out of a successful and energetic warm up, we thought we were ready. Set 1 was intense. We were up all match until the last few points. We allowed Asbury to come back on us. We traded points until they won the set. Set 2, 3, and 4 were a completely different story. We dominated. Everything was clicking. Our passing was on point, hitters were killing the ball, and I felt confident as the setter to put the ball where ever I needed to. The last 5 or so points were amazing. We were on a high! We had 2 huge blocks, big kills, and great chemistry.

Not only did we snag the Conference Tournament title, but we got other accolades as well. Paige, Breezy, Caitlin, and I made the all Conference Team. Also, a huge, greatly appreciated surprise was me receiving a plaque for Player of the Year. Aside from the individual honors, we were presented with a glass trophy with Tournament Champs on it….. BUT!!!.... shortly after the photo shoot, WE BROKE IT! It is now in 2 halves. It is debatably, but I think Breezy broke it! It was between her and I, so obviously I have to put the blame on her!! Haha, I really don’t know how it broke, but I take blame… I guess…

Anyways!! It was an amazing weekend. And to top it all off, we went to Olive Garden before the long bus ride home.

!IMPORTANT! We play Shawnee State University at their place on Saturday At 2 for the first round of Nationals. We win that game, and we go to IOWA for the remainder of the tournament!  We need ALL OF YOU THERE! We need your support! I’m working on getting a bus for students/faculty/staff that would like to go! I’ll see what I can do.
