……SURPRISE!!

10/11/2010

I LOVE MY TEAM. We manage to make just about everything fun and enjoyable.

This weekend we had another long trip! This time we headed south to Union College. It was a tri-match between us, Union, and Montreat. Man oh man… where do I start!

First of all, our word this weekend was SURPRISE. It was VERY appropriate considering last year we drove about 5 hours to get our butts handed to us. Not mention it was on live stream over the internet. We arrived late to the gym, it was SCORCHING hot, and we barely got a warm up in! Oh yeah… we didn’t play very well either. ALL EXCUSES and beside the point. Because this year we really surprised them.

This year we did it right. We left a day early and stayed a hotel which by the way HAD THE BEST BEDS EVER! I slept like a baby all night! We got to sleep in a little, enjoy a good breakfast, and got to the gym early. We watched Montreat play Union, then it was our turn. We had 30 minutes to get focused up. We probably had the best warm up we’ve ever had! When the whistle blew, it was game time… Everyone was in the zone. We took care of business and beat ‘em in 3. We were 24 and 0, ready for the next game.

All of us just wanted to play Union; we wanted to put them in their place. Set 1 was ours; we handled our business and made some great plays! Unfortunately, we dropped set 2. Right off the bat we got some pretty terrible calls! THE REFS WERE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I’m not usually a big fan of the whole “home court advantage” and “home referee advantage,” but WOW. It was obvious that these refs were favoring the home team. One play being game point of set 2, they call a double contact on me when the ball came out of my hands perfectly, no spin, nothing! But because of my body angle and position on the court, I’m sure he thought there was no way I could get a good set off…. UGH! haha, yes, I’m still a little bitter about it. Anyways… Set 3 was ours! As for set 4….ours! 25 and 0.

We SURPRISED them with our emotion, heart, and skill…… SURPRISE!

One thing to note…. Union hadn’t lost a home match since 2008.

Now listen up, we have a VERY VERY VERY big tournament this weekend. This upcoming weekend we play 3 nationally ranked teams. All of which are ranked ahead of us. It is our time to truly put IU East on the map. It is our time to earn some respect.

We will be tested. We will be pushed. And we will prevail.

We need you there though. We need as much support as we can get. The tournament will be held at the new Yorktown facility in Muncie. It’s practically a home match for us folks. We need as much support as we can get! So really make an effort to come out and see the true test.

Agenda:
Friday matches are at 5pm and 7pm
Saturday matches are at 10am and 12pm
