Career building and resume workshop

03/09/2010

As I promised to talk about the Career Building blocks workshop so here it is. Friday, February 26th, at 9 am we went to the community room of Whitewater hall and met Patty and Belinda. You have probably met Belinda as she is also an adviser for freshman and sophomores when you go to register for your classes. Patty works with the internship program, she is really nice and exceptionally helpful when it comes to looking for internships, building your resume, or even advice on your upcoming interview. So back to the workshop? We spent time on skills, it was a major hit point as skills and experience is key to a successful resume, however we spent a lot of time going over dress and interviewing questions as well as ethical behavior when arriving and interacting during the interview. It was extremely helpful and I know one of the things I was more nervous about was the mock interview which wasn't bad at all- it was relaxed and comfortable although I was a bit nervous about stumbling over words. However you do need to participate in the workshop to be able to sign up for internships you do not have to participate in the interview if you did not want to, it was optional. However the mock interview was very helpful and gave me insights to the questions a company might ask and what I need to work on as composure, talking, and playing the part (after all you are auditioning for the job aren't you?). So I suggest going to the workshop because participating in internships is key to success- if you hadn't realized it before now, most internships want someone they can hire on at the end of the term- so don't think it is another dinky summer job because it isn't. Internships should be taken seriously so be sure to attend the next workshop. Register here! and be sure to have your IUE username and pass-phrase ready because it will prompt you to log in.

That is all for today! Hope you all have a great week... or not, the choice is yours!
