Career building and resume workshop

As I promised to talk about the Career Building blocks workshop so here it is. Friday, February 26th, at 9 am we went to the community room of Whitewater hall and met Patty and Belinda. You have probably met Belinda as she is also an adviser for freshman and sophomores when you go to register for your classes. Patty works with the internship program, she is really nice and exceptionally helpful when it comes to looking for internships, building your resume, or even advice on your upcoming interview. So back to the workshop? We spent time on skills, it was a major hit point as skills and experience is key to a successful resume, however we spent a lot of time going over dress and interviewing questions as well as ethical behavior when arriving and interacting during the interview. It was extremely helpful and I know one of the things I was more nervous about was the mock interview which wasn’t bad at all- it was relaxed and comfortable although I was a bit nervous about stumbling over words. However you do need to participate in the workshop to be able to sign up for internships you do not have to participate in the interview if you did not want to, it was optional. However the mock interview was very helpful and gave me insights to the questions a company might ask and what I need to work on as composure, talking, and playing the part (after all you are auditioning for the job aren’t you?). So I suggest going to the workshop because participating in internships is key to success- if you hadn’t realized it before now, most internships want someone they can hire on at the end of the term- so don’t think it is another dinky summer job because it isn’t. Internships should be taken seriously so be sure to attend the next workshop. Register here! and be sure to have your IUE username and pass-phrase ready because it will prompt you to log in.
That is all for today! Hope you all have a great week… or not, the choice is yours!

Things have been really rough lately. I’ve tried to let it all go but I’m tired of it all to bother with trying to feel better about it all. I am ready for spring break. It would be nice right about now but with my luck lately I probably won’t have a break. I’ll have [...]

Hello week!

I’ve been feeling really off lately. I don’t really know why I just feel like I am dreading something but I don’t know what. Things have been so crazy lately that I cannot pinpoint my feelings right now.  I am definitely ready for bed tonight although I haven’t done much of anything besides homework all [...]

Where do you go from here?

I am a little perturbed. I spent four hours on a test yesterday for one of my online classes. It was hard and took a significant chunk out of my weekend so maybe I was too hopeful for expecting a descent grade? Okay, I got a C on it so that isn’t really bad like [...]

Heyyy Redwolves!

I signed up for the internship/resume workshop which I didn’t realize would be so intricate. First from about 9-12 we are having resume building and such working on how to get a great start on our resumes so that they will look sophisticated and professional. Then off to lunch on our own from 12-1 and [...]

Come see me at the Library!

Today, I started my new work study job in the library. I haven’t been in a work/office setting job in my whole life so it was really new to me. I used to work in daycare and in about a week I will not be there anymore. Although I have decided to go on the “sub” [...]

Can’t do life without the drama too!

I am so sick of the drama already. I am ready to leave my current job after a couple issues went down this past week and of course I am not going to blab about it because I know for one thing that one of my supervisors told everyone about the issue… how can I [...]

Happy Monday!

So I think it is going to be very hard to get my goals accomplished if I keep avoiding accomplishing them don’t you? I went way over my budget last month and it is not okay no matter how much I want to tell myself that. Sure I will be okay but I am not [...]

It’s amazing!! 2010 is going to be a great year!

Jeepers! Did you see the parking lot today? I didn’t check out the other lots but TR (Raper) Hall (formerly Middlefork) was packed to the max! Even the visitors spaces were full! It was amazing to see how many people are on campus today. Why am I here? I have all online classes, I should [...]

Woot! New year, new semester, new ME!

I am pumped to be starting back on my online classes and getting back into the fighting ring. I am already stressing about how I can manage four online classes but it won’t be that bad as long as I am organized. Although most online classes are very organized atleast I can say this for [...]
