Why Do We Need Your Help?

The coming years will see dramatic increases in the number of elderly and disabled individuals in our community.

Did you know that the five counties that constitute Area 9, Fayette, Franklin, Rush, Union and Wayne, have the highest percentage of combined older adults (60+) in Indiana at 21% of the total population which is 24% higher then the US older adult population of 17%.

State and federal funding received by Area 9 is not keeping pace with this  increasing need.  In fact, it will be a struggle to maintain current funding   levels in coming years.

In the past year, we served over 8,000 individuals, but currently more than 100 people in our area remain on waiting lists for in-home services and there simply is not enough funding to meet the need.

Did you know that the home care services provided by Area 9 are much less expensive than nursing facility care; so, ultimately, it saves both private and government tax dollars?

How Can You Give?

Make checks payable to Area 9 Agency/IU Foundation. All the money that is donated to Area 9 is deposited into the Indiana University Foundation as they manage all of our dollars for Area 9. The donation will be credited to the Area 9 Agency or one of its programs at the donor’s request. If you choose you can make an immediate contribution quicker than the click of a pen, with a click of the IU Foundation Icon below. 100% of your gift will go to general fund of Area 9 which directly benefits all of our agency programs. After you click the button, be sure to select Area 9 Agency Help for the Elderly under the East Campus.

Tax Benefits

Your gift may provide you with specific tax savings. Indiana taxpayers receive a tax credit of 50% on gifts up to $200 if filing a single return and $400 on a joint return. For example, Sharon has an annual income of $40,000 and files an individual tax return and itemizes. Sharon gave $200 to Area 9 in April 2010, and it only cost her $50. Here’s how it works:

Gift $200
Federal tax savings $50
Indiana tax savings $100
Net cost to Sharon $50

Planned Giving

One way to help is to establish a planned giving program such as a charitable remainder trust with Area 9 listed as the beneficiary.

If you are interested in pursuing this option, we recommend that you   consult with a qualified estate planner to ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

Memorials

A donation to our agency is a fitting memorial at the time of a friend or family member's death.  Such a tribute honors the life of someone you love by giving a better life to someone who needs a little help.

If you are interested in this giving option, please provide us with the name of the deceased and the name and address of the person to be notified (typically the next of kin) of the gift.

Birthday or Anniversary Contributions

Another option is to celebrate the birthday of those you love, or mark an anniversary, with a donation to our agency.

Under this giving option, we will send a greeting card to the person celebrating their birthday or anniversary, explaining that your gift to them is a gift to someone in need.

All you need to do in making a donation as a gift is provide us with the name, address and birthday date of the honoree, and how you want the greeting signed.

  • one month of a personal emergency response system for an elderly woman with a history of falls.

A $50.00 donation can help us provide:

  • a day of adult day services to allow a wife caring for her husband who has Alzheimer’s to have a day to shop, visit with friends, and simply recharge for the week ahead; or,
  • two home delivered meals a day for one week for a young disabled man recovering from a recent surgery

A $100.00 donation can help us provide:

  • transportation once a week for a year so that an elderly woman in a rural area can go to the grocery.

A $500.00 donation can help us provide:

  • assistance to fifteen elderly clients in our community with getting their air conditioners in place for the coming summer or taking them out in the fall

The coming years will see dramatic increases in the number of elderly and disabled individuals in our community.

State and federal funding received by Area 9 is not keeping pace with this increasing need.  In fact, it will be a struggle to maintain current service levels in coming years.

We need your help…. They need your help….

With your contribution, we can ensure that these services continue and even grow in the coming years.  Please help us to continue to assist the elderly and disabled of our community.  Thank you for your support
